The narcos, the bribes, and the recordings: The DEA has spent almost a decade building the case that led them to Juan Orlando Hernández, until recently the president of Honduras.

The DEA and federal prosecutors investigated the former Honduran president for several years after discovering alleged links to several traffickers. What kind of evidence convinced them to bring charges against him?

Until he left office on January 27 after two-terms as president, Juan Orlando Hernández had been protected from prosecution by a Department of Justice policy to not indict sitting heads of state. On Tuesday he was arrested and taken from his house in chains.

A Miami security firm was linked by a Haitian police investigation to the assassination of President Jovenel Moise last July. CTU security has sought to distance itself from any involvement in his death. But an FBI investigation has highlighted possible links between CTU and its sister company CTU Federal Academy with some of the suspects. (Leer en español)

Three were killed, one escaped and 17 others are in Haiti's national penitentiary while an investigation is underway. They are among the more than 40 accused in the assassination, while the company that hired them in South Florida is also under investigation.

Hernández has been accused by U.S. federal prosecutors of engaging in "state-sponsored drug trafficking" with his brother. So the question that arises is whether he will be indicted and his extradition requested? (Leer en español)
